Our History

PARIS · EST. 1924
Built in 1924. Reimagined in 2019. The night was always the point.
Nocturne began as a private members’ club — a building where the city’s artists, architects, and deliberate insomniacs gathered after midnight. It changed hands three times before finding its current owners.
In 2019, the decision was made not to restore it, but to rebuild around what remained: the dark panelled walls, the long mahogany bar, and a certain quality of quiet that couldn’t be designed from scratch.
The result is twelve rooms and one cocktail bar that take the building’s original spirit seriously. Nothing was added for the sake of it.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
“We do not have a spa. We do not have a gym. We have very good beds, blackout curtains, and a bar programme that has been written about in places we try not to mention in our own marketing.”
— Nocturne, since 1924
1924
The Club Opens
Nocturne opens its doors as a private members’ club on a quiet street in the 11th arrondissement. By winter of that year, it becomes the city’s worst-kept secret — known to everyone, accessible to few.
1987
First Rooms
The upper floors, previously used for storage, are converted into four guest rooms. They are rented by the week to musicians, writers, and anyone who seems like they need the dark and the quiet.
1961
A Change of Hands
The building passes through two owners in a decade. The bar remains untouched through both transitions — it is widely agreed that no one wanted the responsibility of changing it.
2019
Nocturne, Reimagined
The building is acquired and quietly rebuilt from the second floor up. Twelve rooms, each distinct. The bar is left almost entirely alone. Ember opens in October to no announcement, and is fully booked within the week.
